This book is so well written that I sat down for a few hours and turned the last page. Happiness, wonder, sorrow, joy, terror, fear, and more were experienced while reading the book. There were even moments I laughed. Yes, laughed. Humor does get us through some hard times. Allison is brilliant in how she puts words to paper!

What a wonderful read! To read about someone who impacted your life is quite a treat. Every week my family and I would sit down and watch Carol's variety show. What great laughs! I still remember the entire group standing in line at the end of the show singing and then Carol pulling on her ear. 

We all grow up differently. Some of us grow up with laughter in our homes. Others don't. When Carol Burnett entered the room, it was acceptable to be silly. It was okay to laugh at yourself. 

Maybe it's because of Carol that I am as silly as I am...and enjoy it! I can't imagine life without laughs. How would we manage the awful times? We have to think of those as stepping stones to the other side. Good things will come. They always do.

So, thank you, Carol. You're amazing!

"Orange is the New Black" - an eye-opener to the system and survival

So most of us have heard how well Orange is the New Black is doing on television. I decided to pick up a copy of the book and see what all the fuss is about. I MUCH prefer reading a book than watching a show or a movie.

The book, written by an actual inmate, is well done. Piper learns to listen to her own instinct and makes it through the hardest of times and comes out smiling. Lesson learned. Also learned were the defects in the system.

Each day we make choices. The choices we make can impact those around us. As you go through your day, keep in mind that, even if you think something is a good idea at the time, it may not be for the long haul.

Pick up a copy of "Orange is the New Black". Learn from someone who was there.

                        Learn how women helped win WWII! What a story!

We have all heard about the atomic bomb we dropped on Hiroshima. Do you know how it was created? Do you know where it was made and who did all the work? 

Life is filled with secrets. This was the biggest secret the U.S. had and kept from the time it was "created" until the time it was dropped on Japan.

Get on the bus, walk through the mud, wash off your feet and get to work in your small part of the creation of the atomic bomb. That's what the women did. Can you imagine? They did it to help end the war.

It's 1869. The war between the states is over. Life in the south was, to say the least, a challenge. For the landowners who had slaves to work their fields, they were now lucky if the freed men and women would stay to help.

Chaos ruled the land. Outlaws scared the towns. Seeing the freed men and woman as equal was quite another story. Of course some had more difficulty than others.

This book is brilliantly written. It's written like a history book in motion. How creative Randy is! I smile thinking back at the hot air balloon ride. A bit of joy between the hardships.

Life is precious. There are so many of us who take life for granted. The clouds float above but how many of you actually see them? The rivers move carrying nutrients to the land but who sees them? Who hears the birds or the animals who live near the water or in the trees? Do you? Do you take the time to appreciate the world we live  in?

The land we call home is precious. Look around and appreciate the small part you call home.

A book that will keep your wings guessing, learning and wondering. A GREAT read!

"Flight Behavior" by Barbara Kingsolver is a book unlike any I have read to date. If you are interested in the life around you, this book is a must for you. Picture this: you walk up a trail and before you is a land unlike you have ever seen before. It's brilliant in its light and hue.


Butterflies have always fascinated me. I love watching them and capturing them with my digital camera. I love observing them as they feed and fly. It's interesting when you accidentally startle a butterfly that is feeding in that it flies off the milkweed and returns to the same plant. Patience. It's what we need to see the world around us and understand it.

The world we live in is filled with opportunities, obstacles, ramifications and delight.
